This page has been created mainly to provide a convenient place to download the Life History of Joseph Brooksby. Other options such as scanned pictures originally taken or owned by Joseph Brooksby and now in the posession of Helen Brooksby will be made available as time permits. I had originally planned to produce a hard-bound book to make available to all interested Brooksbys but an electronic medium seems now to make more sense.
The Life History of Joseph Brooksby was transcribed to electronic form by myself from original mimeographed sheets which have been ciculating around the family for years. I have a single copy of this history which was hand corrected by Joseph Brooksby before his death. I will be using this copy to correct the version here by and by. However, in the interest of making the history available sooner rather than later, I'm making the preliminary version available now. Check the update date when downloading to make sure you have the most recent version.
This file available here is comprised of the Life History of Joseph Brooksby as well as a very brief history that was recorded by his wife, Hermoine, and a short piece that Joseph wrote about his father. A good deal of Joseph's poetry is also available in this file.
The file presented here is in .PDF format. This format is a portable document format defined by Adobe Systems, Inc. Readers are freely available for this type of document for most platforms (PC, Mac, Sun, etc) from Adobe Systems..
Please let me know how you like what you find here. Depending on the response I may take the time to digitize some old audio cassette recordings of Joseph singing things like "Gone at the Knees" and make them available here too. Maybe I'll even get real brave and see if I can get some of our old home movies of Joseph and Hermoine digitized and converted to .AVI files!
